NEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION LAW AS OF 1ST NOVEMBER 2010

Hi all

Not sure if you are aware of this but a new law is coming into effect on 1 November that allows anybody to get your name and address just by supplying your licence plate number.  You can opt out from this by visiting the NZ Transport Authority website and going through a few forms.  You will need your driver’s licence to proceed.  I’m a bit concerned that someone can see you driving down the road, in your nice car, setting out on holiday, look up your address and break in while you are away.  Odd kind of law really!

The website lets you enter multiple number plates but it seems you would need to do it again if you change cars.
