Artiu can own an actual police car—and maybe even profit from itcle: Yo

Posted by NZEVC on Monday, July 18, 2016,

Nobody wants to find themselves sitting in a police car. That is, of course, unless they own that police car. But believe it or not, that is a possibility for the average driver.

When police agencies upgrade to new cruisers, they don't just ditch their old ones on the side of the highway. Instead, they sell them to places like Copcarsonline, where for 24 years, Florida-based Jon Woodhouse has been refurbishing and selling former law-enforcement vehicles.

Most of Woodhouse's buyers are smaller p...

75 years of woman in policing

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, July 6, 2016,

On June 3, 1941, 10 prospective police women began their training at the New Zealand Police Academy.

They were recruited through advertisements "for single and widowed ladies", were banned from driving police cars and had to resign if they wanted to marry.

Women now account for over 30 per cent of police staff.

Blues and twos: Britain’s wildest new police cars revealed

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, July 6, 2016,

Hundreds of police cars all under one roof – if you’re part of the criminal fraternity, it’s the stuff of nightmares, but for the rest of us, it’s an amazing insight into how police forces choose and buy their new cars. We visited the National Association of Police Fleet Managers (NAPFM) 2016 motor show to see what a motorshow for police officers is really like.

The undoubted star of the 2016 NAPFM exhibition is Ford’s remarkable police-liveried Mustang. Decked out in the very same h...

Preserving the NYPD's Motorized Past

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Monday, May 9, 2016,

by Benjamin Preston

Let's say you've spent a couple decades busting drunk drivers, chasing robbers or sending wise guys to prison. Finding something to do after you retire that doesn't bore you to death can be tricky. In New York City, there is one pastime that allows some former officers of the country's largest police force to stay engaged with department while they learn about a specific part of NYPD history: restoring old cop cars.

I met a group of mostly retired NYPD police officers recent...

Article: The very basics of police car collecting - Pt one

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, June 3, 2015,
There has been a definite lack of a great deal written on the collecting and restoring of police cars. These important pieces of automotive history have only in recent times been made more noteworthy.

Like anyone interested in purchasing any vintage car, there are decisions to be made and things to be considered. Let’s look at a few of them rationally and simply one at a time, ones that I personally consider of great importance. I’m only addressing a few irrefutable facts. You can make you...

Vintage patrol car on US beat

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Tuesday, May 21, 2013,

At a recent scene of a fight on Seattle's waterfront, most of the gawkers weren't looking at the handcuffed and yelling suspect or the bloodied victim. Instead, their attention and cameras were directed at a fully restored 1970 Plymouth Satellite police cruiser.

It's the common reaction to the vehicle driven by 30-year-veteran Officer Jim Ritter. By his count, the Plymouth has caused at least three fender-benders.

"People will stop their cars and run across three lanes of traffic ...

Cop Drives Classic Cop Car: 1972 Ford Galaxie 500

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Tuesday, May 21, 2013,

As the nation’s peacekeepers are learning to live without the venerable Ford Crown Victoria it is also a time to reflect on what police cars were like in the time before the Panther platform debuted in 1978 for the 1979 model year. In 1972, the cruiser of choice for the City of Lexington was the Ford Galaxie 500.

This particular car wears the blue and gold livery of the now defunct City of Lexington Police Department. In 1974 the government of the City of Lexington was merged with the govern...

"Police Vehicles from around the World"

Who wouldn't want a Ford Super Duty-based SUV with a 116-inch wheelbase and a 19.7-foot turning radius? Let's not forget the most important part, which most early SUVs lacked-a diesel engine. The designers of the SandCat took advantage of all the positive aspects of the Super Duty. For example, the front suspension, front and rear axles, steering, and frame (shortened) are all from the Ford factory. Even the dash was left intact. This provides the new dr...

In the Planning stages

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, June 1, 2011,

Well we now have a few members (around 45 throughout New Zealand) so I thought it was time I got together with some friends and started planning an event.

The concept I'm currently working on is "Cops and Rodders".

Being a small club it would be hard to arrange a single event so i have decided to try and arrange an event with maybe
two other major car clubs.

Updates on plans coming soon.

His car was spotted most recently in Ngaumutawa Rd on the afternoon of Thursday, August 19.

A witness told police they had seen the car being driven down the busy arterial route with lights flashing and an air horn blaring.

The collection includes teddy bears, badges, a range of model police vehicles and caps from Poland, Germany, South Africa, Arge...

The Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, a very useful document, states in Part 8.5 (Use of Beacons) that a beacon must be approved before use.

As well as outlining the use of red, blue, green and white beacons, the rules say that an amber beacon may be fitted to a vehicle in accordance with a traffic management plan approved by a road-controlling authority.

It also allows for the use of an amber beacon when the vehicle is going to be stopped or driven slowly and where other road users nee...

Drivers see red over blue lights

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Saturday, June 26, 2010,

Thursday Apr 22, 2010
Amid growing anger in Russia over state officials and businessmen using special sirens on their cars to flout traffic regulations, the country's Parliament is considering a law that would drastically restrict their use.

The flashing blue lights, or migalki as they are known in Russian, are the bane of ordinary motorists, especially in the capital.

Driving at high speed down the wrong side of the road, whizzing through Moscow's notorious traffic jams while ambulances an...

The Modern Police car

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Saturday, June 5, 2010,

In 1968 the first of the grey Police cars arrive and the Police vehicles remained grey , with a single red flashing light until 1978, when the new style patrol cars rolled out with the dual blue flashing lights.
The blue flashing lights was a departure from the conventional emergency vehicles in that Police cars do not have sirens.
It was important, therefore, for police cars to be able to be visually seen in heavy traffic and not to be confused with numerous brake & indicator flashing lights...
