Artiu can own an actual police car—and maybe even profit from itcle: Yo

Posted by NZEVC on Monday, July 18, 2016,

Nobody wants to find themselves sitting in a police car. That is, of course, unless they own that police car. But believe it or not, that is a possibility for the average driver.

When police agencies upgrade to new cruisers, they don't just ditch their old ones on the side of the highway. Instead, they sell them to places like Copcarsonline, where for 24 years, Florida-based Jon Woodhouse has been refurbishing and selling former law-enforcement vehicles.

Most of Woodhouse's buyers are smaller p...

Preserving the NYPD's Motorized Past

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Monday, May 9, 2016,

by Benjamin Preston

Let's say you've spent a couple decades busting drunk drivers, chasing robbers or sending wise guys to prison. Finding something to do after you retire that doesn't bore you to death can be tricky. In New York City, there is one pastime that allows some former officers of the country's largest police force to stay engaged with department while they learn about a specific part of NYPD history: restoring old cop cars.

I met a group of mostly retired NYPD police officers recent...

Article: The very basics of police car collecting - Pt one

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, June 3, 2015,
There has been a definite lack of a great deal written on the collecting and restoring of police cars. These important pieces of automotive history have only in recent times been made more noteworthy.

Like anyone interested in purchasing any vintage car, there are decisions to be made and things to be considered. Let’s look at a few of them rationally and simply one at a time, ones that I personally consider of great importance. I’m only addressing a few irrefutable facts. You can make you...

Vintage patrol car on US beat

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Tuesday, May 21, 2013,

At a recent scene of a fight on Seattle's waterfront, most of the gawkers weren't looking at the handcuffed and yelling suspect or the bloodied victim. Instead, their attention and cameras were directed at a fully restored 1970 Plymouth Satellite police cruiser.

It's the common reaction to the vehicle driven by 30-year-veteran Officer Jim Ritter. By his count, the Plymouth has caused at least three fender-benders.

"People will stop their cars and run across three lanes of traffic ...

Cop Drives Classic Cop Car: 1972 Ford Galaxie 500

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Tuesday, May 21, 2013,

As the nation’s peacekeepers are learning to live without the venerable Ford Crown Victoria it is also a time to reflect on what police cars were like in the time before the Panther platform debuted in 1978 for the 1979 model year. In 1972, the cruiser of choice for the City of Lexington was the Ford Galaxie 500.

This particular car wears the blue and gold livery of the now defunct City of Lexington Police Department. In 1974 the government of the City of Lexington was merged with the govern...

"Police Vehicles from around the World"

Who wouldn't want a Ford Super Duty-based SUV with a 116-inch wheelbase and a 19.7-foot turning radius? Let's not forget the most important part, which most early SUVs lacked-a diesel engine. The designers of the SandCat took advantage of all the positive aspects of the Super Duty. For example, the front suspension, front and rear axles, steering, and frame (shortened) are all from the Ford factory. Even the dash was left intact. This provides the new dr...

This idoit is not an NZEVC Member...

A Masterton man suspected of turning up at crash scenes in a fake "fire safety marshall" patrol car, posing as a paramedic or fireman, is under investigation by police.

His car was spotted most recently in Ngaumutawa Rd on the afternoon of Thursday, August 19.

A witness told police they had seen the car being driven down the busy arterial route with lights flashing and an air horn blaring.

The person said the car appeared to be driving to an emergency and ...

FACT File: From Across the Ditch

The South Australian police used 1956 [and presumably later] Chrysler Royal V8s. The Chrysler Royal used the U.S. 1953-54 Plymouth body with modern updates such as fins, quad stacked headlights, etc. They have recently restored a replica Chrysler Royal.

NZCC - 1964 Morris Minor 1000 fire appliance

Posted by Terry Nicholas on Wednesday, May 5, 2010,
April 14th, 2010 by NZ Classic Car

Tim gets all fired up and attends a ‘Minor’ call-out to experience a special little 1964 Morris Minor 1000 fire appliance

Here at NZ Classic Car I’ve covered a few old fire appliances over the last decade, ranging from a big Ahrens-Fox in an Australian museum to a working Land Rover fire engine in Haast, but I certainly wasn’t prepared to experience one so tiny as a Morrie Thou! What’s more, our featured fire appliance does actually get used by ...
