NEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION LAW AS OF 1ST NOVEMBER 2010

Not sure if you are aware of this but a new law is coming into effect on 1 November that allows anybody to get your name and address just by supplying your licence plate number. You can opt out from this by visiting the NZ Transport Authority website and going through a few forms. You will need your driver’s licence to proceed. The Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, a very useful document, states in Part 8.5 (Use of Beacons) that a beacon must be approved before use.
As well as outlining the use of red, blue, green and white beacons, the rules say that an amber beacon may be fitted to a vehicle in accordance with a traffic management plan approved by a road-controlling authority.
